I'm pleased to share the news that the September 2022 edition of Hayakawa's Mystery Magazine (in Japan) is featuring me and my work, marking, as it says on the cover, "The 80th Anniversary of His Birth."
As well as a newly translated story, there are critical comments and a message from me for my Japanese readers. The company, headed by the amazing Hiroshi Hayakawa, has supported my work since the early '70s. It is now also publishing my latest novel, Whatever It Takes.
If all that's not enough, the magazine also includes a wonderful story by my partner, Liza Cody: "When I'm Feeling Lucky" is otherwise only available in English in her story collection, "My People." Who but Liza would write haikus for a story to be published in Japan?
I'm also pleased to alert you to some upcoming short stories that will appear in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. The first, soon, is Two, Four, Six, Eight. Whatever could go wrong in a high school and among cheerleaders?
I do hope you've all been able to cope with Covid and with the heat that's been so nasty in the northern hemisphere. Now that I'm so ancient, I've worked hard at avoiding the virus and keeping cool. Happily, I'm working every day and passed the 50,000 word mark in my new novel - a crime novel again this time, but not part of an existing series. Though it takes place in a city that's kinda like Indianapolis...
Keep well, everyone.
Mike
